When will flat welded flanges be used? What are its advantages?

At the construction site, flanges can be seen everywhere. But the application of different flanges is also different.

Today, let's talk about what flat welding flanges are and their uses.

Due to different welding methods, the names of flanges are almost different. Today we are talking about using fillet weld connections, which are a type of flange tool called flat welded flanges. In industry, it is known as the "king of material saving" because compared to neck welded flanges, its structure is simple and materials are also saved. The only drawback is that the sealing is not very good, so it's better to use a neck welded flange.

The sealing surface of flat welded flanges is divided into concave and convex surfaces. Usually, we place the gasket in a concave surface. Suitable gaskets include various non-metallic flat gaskets, cladding gaskets, metal gaskets, and wound gaskets. Multiple models of inner rings, metal wave pads, metal flat pads, and metal tooth pads.

What is worth noting? The required sealing pressure cannot be maintained between the flat welding flange faces, so it is necessary to frequently inspect and replace gasket materials or use flanges with grooves and concave convex flanges with two stops (such as high-pressure seals and metal flat gaskets) together to solve the problem.

Of course, it is also emphasized here that there is a need for supply, and the characteristics of various flanges are also mentioned:

The flat welded joint has a convex surface, where grooves are made and the pipe is welded inside.

The socket welding does not have a convex surface, and a groove is directly opened on the flange body, just like a hole on the flange, and then a groove is opened.

Of course, let me briefly mention here that flat welding of flanges is mainly used for flat welding flanges, while butt welding is mainly used for butt welding flanges. The difference between flat welding flanges and butt welding flanges is that the sealing surface of flat welding flanges can be made into three types: smooth, concave convex, and tenon groove. Butt welding flanges use concave convex sealing surfaces; When welding with the nozzle, the welding angle is 90 °, which is called flat welding.
